Gedion Wolde Amanuel is an Ethiopian author, researcher, poet, and compiler of historical works. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Asmara University. Through his writings, he explores themes of history, identity, social justice, human dignity, and the cultural transformation of Ethiopia.
He is the author of five books written in both Amharic and English:
1. የከርቸሌ ግጥሞች / የዓለም በቃኝ ግጥሞች (Ginbot 1996 E.C.) — a collection of Amharic poems reflecting social realities, human emotions, and philosophical reflections on life.
2. ቪላ ቪርጆሊዮና ሌሎች አጫጭር ታሪኮች — a collection of short stories portraying different dimensions of Ethiopian society and human experience.
3. The Day of the Martyrs (August 2010) — a historical and political reflection dedicated to the memory of those who sacrificed their lives during difficult periods of Ethiopian history.
4. Lovely SMS Text (December 2011) — a collection of educational and inspirational SMS-style messages prepared especially for Ethiopian children and young readers.
5. “Game-Changers” of Identity Politics in Ethiopia (2013) — an analytical work examining ethnicity, identity politics, and political transformation in contemporary Ethiopia.
Gedion Wolde Amanuel’s works combine literature, history, and social analysis. His writings aim to preserve historical memory, encourage critical thinking, and contribute to intellectual and cultural discussions within Ethiopia and beyond.
